2 Philly cops among candidates to head Memphis police

Two Philadelphia cops are on the short list of candidates for the job of director of the Memphis Police Department, according to news reports out of Memphis, Tenn.

Two Philadelphia cops are on the short list of candidates for the job of director of the Memphis Police Department, according to news reports out of Memphis, Tenn.

Philadelphia police Chief Inspector Joe Sullivan, who oversees the department's S.W.A.T., Civil Affairs, and Homeland Security units is one of six men on the list of finalists, as is Philadelphia Housing Authority Police Chief Branville Bard, the Commercial Appeal of Memphis reported.

Bard worked for the Philadelphia Police Department for 21 years and was commander of the department's forensic science unit before he took the job with PHA in 2015.

Sullivan, who has 34 years with the Philadelphia Police Department, has previously worked in Narcotics and the Northwest Detectives Division. He has been a visible presence at protests throughout the city for years.
