A motorist hit a trolley head-on near the SugarHouse Casino this afternoon. The car's driver was killed, while one trolley passenger reported minor injuries.

The collision happened just after 1 p.m. on Delaware Avenue at Frankford Avenue as the West Philadelphia-bound Route 15 trolley exited SEPTA's station near the casino, said SEPTA spokesman Manny Smith. Six or seven passengers were on board, Smith added.

A photograph shot from NBC-10's SkyForce10 helicopter crew shows the car's front end lodged partly under the trolley's front end. A police spokeswoman said the car's driver, a woman who remains unidentified, was speeding when she hit the near-stationary trolley. Paramedics declared her dead on the scene at 1:15 p.m.

Service was briefly suspended, but the Route 15 trolley continues running between West Philadelphia and the stop at 26th Street and Girard Avenue, with a shuttle bus operating between that stop and the casino, Smith said.
