A 10-year-old girl who was hit by a stray bullet as she walked in between two men who were fighting in North Philadelphia on Thursday has been treated for her injuries and released, police said.

The gunfire began around 6 p.m. when one of two men who were arguing on the 3100 block of North Rosewood Street went to his vehicle, retrieved a handgun and began firing at the other man, according to police.

The girl was crossing the street and walked in between the men just as the gunfire erupted, police said.

Even after the bullet hit the little girl, the gunfire continued, police said. A third man who was in a nearby home leaned out of a second story window and began firing at the same man the first gunman had aimed for, police said.

The injured girl screamed for her grandmother, who called police. The child was taken to Temple University Hospital and transferred to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children for treatment.

Police know the identity of both shooters, who are 23 and 29, but their names have not yet been released pending the approval of arrests warrants.

The intended victim of the gunmen escaped the shooting unharmed and remains unidentified, police said.
