Cops: Man critically wounded during robbery

It was all over a dirtbike.

Two punks shot a 31-year-old man point-blank in the chest today in Hunting Park, apparently because they coveted his souped-up toy, police said.

It happened about 3:30 p.m. on 5th Street near Erie Avenue, Chief Inspector Scott Small said. A 31-year-old was shot once in the chest by two men who demanded he hand over his Yamaha 125cc dirtbike.

The victim was taken to Temple University Hospital by private vehicle, where he remains in critical condition, Small said.

His shooters, described as a thin man wearing all blue and a heavyset man, "well over 300 pounds" wearing all grey, Small said. They used a revolver in the attack, and were seen fleeing the scene westbound on Erie Avenue, with at least one of them riding that pilfered dirtbike.

Tipsters should call 215-686-8477.
