Two people were shot and killed and a third was critically injured when an unknown shooter -- or shooters -- opened fire about 1:25 a.m. today at 52nd Street and Girard Avenue in West Philadelphia.
Police said a 27-year-old man and a 52-year-old man both were pronounced dead at the Hospital of the Unviersity of Pennsylvania about 10 minutes after cops responded to a radio call about shots being fired in the area. Neither victim was named by police.
A 23-year-old man survived the same incident with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was listed in critical condition at HUP. Police said investigators had no suspects or motives.
Shortly after 5 a.m., patrol cops in Kingsessing were flagged down by a pedestrian who said he spotted an unresponsive man on Greenway Avenue near 55th Street.
The 41-year-old man, whose name was not released, was found on the ground next to a car, with a single stab wound to his chest, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
