Now this was some trick.
Two men who thought they were robbing a prostitute they'd met online yesterday got what was coming to them when the prostitute turned out to be an undercover officer working a sting operation, according to the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office.
Upper Merion Township police and Montgomery County detectives set up the sting by placing an advertisement for prostitution services online, according to a news release. The ad worked - police said they nabbed three men who showed up at an undisclosed hotel in King of Prussia and agreed to pay money for sex.
However, when the undercover officer posing as a prostitute opened the door for potential "client" Melvin Hunt, things turned south, police said. Hunt was in the room for about a minute with the woman before he opened the door to let in another man, later identified as Maurice Keeley Jr., according to prosecutors.
Together, the men then tried to rob the undercover officer at gunpoint, believing she was a prostitute, police said. But instead of one lone pimp coming to the woman's aide, an entire police surveillance team rushed in the room to take the men down.
Hunt soon became the hunted as he tried to flee the scene, but was eventually taken down by police in the hotel lobby, according to prosecutors. Police also recovered a gun Hunt tried to throw away during the case, according to the news release.
Keeley was nabbed immediately in the hotel room. Both men have been charged with robbery and related offenses and remanded to the Montgomery County Prison on $100,000 bail each.
