Fugitive in W. Philly murders nabbed for speeding in Tenn.

After evading capture in a brutal double-homicide investigation for two years, Tyheem Melton was foiled by a speeding ticket in rural Tennessee.

Melton, 39, is being held in Cleveland, Tenn., and will be extradited to Philly in the coming days, according to Ed Ramsey, a spokesman for the Bradley County Sheriff's Office.

Late Monday, an officer from the sheriff's office pulled over Melton as he was speeding down Interstate 75 in a rental car, said Ramsey.

When the officer asked Melton's name, the West Philly native gave him a fake one. Then another. And another. And one more, for good measure.

Finally, after he was taken into custody by the officer, Melton provided his correct information. Lo and behold, investigators discovered he has an active warrant out for his arrest after allegedly gunning down two people in a bar two years ago.

In that incident, Troy Wimberly, 38, and Crystal Shadding, 43, died after being shot inside the The Corral, a tavern beneath the El tracks on Market Street near 52nd in the wee hours of April 6, 2012, according to Officer Jillian Russell, a police spokeswoman.

Police told the Daily News at the time that a dispute over drugs sparked the gunfire.

For his arrest in Tennessee, Melton has been charged with being a fugitive from justice, criminal impersonation, driving without a license and speeding, said Ramsey.

Investigators don't know how long Melton was in The Volunteer State, but the sheriff's office received reports that he had been sighted previously in South Carolina.

The officer who pulled Melton over noted that his car was fully-stocked, and that it looked like he had been traveling on the interstate for some time, said Ramsey.
