Gunfire leaves boy, 17, dead in Kensington

Gunfire erputed in broad daylight at a Kensington street corner Wednesday afternoon, and police say a 17-year-old boy was gravely wounded in its wake.

The shooting happened at 2:09 p.m. at Hartville and Cambria streets, just west of the Kensington Avenue corridor, according to preliminary police information. The teenager took at least one bullet to the back, police said.

The victim was taken to Temple University Hospital in a private vehicle. He was pronounced dead there at 2:36 p.m., police said. Police were holding the car that drove the teen to the hospital there for investigation, and its occupants were taken to the Homicide Unit to be interviewed by detectives.

Police have not yet released any information on a motive or suspect in the shooting, and no arrests have been reported.
