Two men, one of whom is hospitalized after being hit by a car while trying to flee police, were arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in West Philadelphia's Carroll Park section Wednesday afternoon.

Police said gunfire erupted on Frazier Street near Thompson at 11:46 a.m., leaving a 24-year-old man wounded in the chest, left arm and groin. He was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and pronounced dead there at 12:04 p.m., according to police.

Shortly after the shooting, police tracked down two suspects about two blocks west of the scene, on Wanamaker Street near Thompson. One suspect, according to police, attempted to flee from officers and was hit by a passing car. That 21-year-old suspect is in critical condition at HUP with head and chest trauma and is in custody, police said. The second suspect was arrested without incident. Police said they also found a car and a gun believed to have been used in the homicide nearby, on Hobart Street near Thompson.

Neither suspect had been formally charged in the fatal shooting as of 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.
