Two still on loose after police chase that began in Tinicum ends in South Philly

A late night chase in South Philly ended without any injuries Thursday evening, police said.

A late night chase in South Philly ended without any injuries Thursday evening, police said.

The pursuit began shortly after 8 p.m., when police in Ridley Township responded to a report of retail theft at a Home Depot at McDade Boulevard of several thousand dollars worth of merchandise, including power tools, according to Philadelphia police Chief Inspector Scott Small.

Twenty minutes later, Tinicum Township police spotted the Dodge Minivan matching the description traveling on I-95 toward Columbus Boulevard.

They gave chase into South Philly, where the van struck a cab on South Broad Street near Terminal Avenue before coming to a stop on the median.

Tinicum officers apprehended two of the van's passengers, but the male driver and another female passenger fled on foot and are being pursued by Philadelphia Police.

No one was injured in the crash or pursuit.

The passengers are being charged with felony retail theft as well as reckless endangerment for the pursuit, Small said.

Reports of a gunshot came from a Tinicum Township officer who accidentally discharged his gun during the arrest.
