Police have identified a man who they stabbed a fellow subway rider on SEPTA's Broad Street line late yesterday as James Hayes, 20.

Police have identified a man who they stabbed a fellow subway rider on SEPTA's Broad Street line late yesterday as James Hayes, 20.

Hayes allegedly stabbed a 21-year-old rider he was arguing with in the stomach as the train was approaching the Ellsworth-Federal station shortly before 11 a.m. yesterday.

The victim was taken to Jefferson University Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition, police said.

Hayes, of Andrews Avenue near Ogontz, was arrested at the scene and charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and related offenses.

When asked what the two men were arguing over, police spokeswoman Ofc. Tanya Little said "it was a bunch of mumble jumble." She said witnesses did detail what the fight was about, but she declined to disclose it, calling their statements "hearsay."
