A 26-year-old man has been charged with third-degree murder in connection with his brother's death on Monday in the South Philly home where they lived.

Carmen Giangrante, of 2800 S. Seventh Street, is also charged with involuntary manslaughter and possessing instruments of a crime for the early-morning incident that claimed the life of his elder brother, 28-year-old Craig Giangrante Jr.

Police said they responded to the brothers' house around 2:44 a.m. for reports of a person with a gun. Craig Jr. was discovered in a rear bedroom with a single gunshot wound to his head and was pronounced dead on scene at 2:52 a.m

No official motive was listed for the shooting but Chief Inspector Scott Small told reporters at the scene that the younger Giangrante told police he was playing with a gun when it went off.

Police have also identified the victim of a second homicide on Monday that occurred on the 1000 block of Alcott Street in Lawncrest around 4:57 p.m. Brent Rafferty, 45, of the 1000 block of Van Kirk Street, was found in the street with numerous gunshot wounds to his body and taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 5:22 p.m.
