Suspect hits officer with car during drug investigation

A man was arrested after hitting a police officer with his car during a narcotics investigation at about 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Officers were on Howard Street near Cumberland in the Fairhill section of North Philadelphia when the man got into his car and hit the officer before fleeing the scene.

Police said the man was arrested at his home in North Philadelphia. Officials said the man is in his late 20s.

The officer, whom police said is in his 30s, suffered a minor cut on his elbow.

Police said he was also suffering from pain in one of his knees after the incident, but that he was otherwise in good physical condition after an evaluation at Episcopal Hospital.

Officials said the officer who was injured is assigned to the 26th District, which covers Kensington and parts of North Philadelphia.
