Teen shot dead in Carroll Park identified

Police have identified a 19-year-old man shot to death in West Philadelphia's Carroll Park section Tuesday night as Najji Abdul-Rahim.

Police have identified a 19-year-old man shot to death in West Philadelphia's Carroll Park section Tuesday night as Najji Abdul-Rahim.

Abdul-Rahim was shot six times at 58th and Master streets shortly after 7 p.m. and died at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania less than two hours later.

Chief Inspector Scott Small said a car was stopped near where Abdul-Rahim was shot shortly after the murder, and that police found a gun in the car. Cops also found a gun discarded on nearby Wanamaker Street, Small said, but it was unclear whether either was used in the homicide, and no charges in the murder have been filed.

A second homicide victim from Tuesday night, a man estimated to be in his late 40s or early 50s who was shot to death around 7:30 p.m. at 66th Street and Paschall Avenue in Elmwood remains a John Doe, according to a police spokeswoman.

Police did not report any suspects in that slaying.
