Teen wounded in groin by accidental gunfire

A 16-year-old boy was hospitalized in stable condition Wednesday afternoon after he accidentally shot himself in Logan Wednesday afternoon, police said.

The teen was standing on the corner of Wister Street and Elkins Avenue - on La Salle University's campus - around 4:30 p.m. when the accidental shot was fired, police said. The boy was wounded once in his groin.

He was taken by private auto to the Albert Einstein Medical Center around 4:30 p.m. Police did not find any shell casings or a gun on the scene.

The unidentified driver and the car that was used to transport the victim were held at the hospital Wednesday afternoon.

Police said the boy will likely be arrested for illegally carrying a firearm after he is treated for his injury.
