Two fatally shot by cops today

Two people were fatally shot by police in separate incidents in the city and the suburbs today, according to authorities.

Around 4:26 p.m., a 27-year-old woman was shot by a city police officer on Cherry Street near 56th in West Philadelphia. Cops were originally called to the scene because the woman was going after her mother with a knife during a domestic dispute, a police source said. It's not yet clear if the woman turned her knife on police, inciting them to shoot, or if there was another reason behind the gunfire, the source said.

That fatal police-involved incident followed another one early this morning on the streets of Chester, Delaware County.

According to the Delaware County District Attorney's Office, a Chester cop conducted a car stop on a vehicle with three people inside shortly after midnight and the driver of the car, Noahcell Bagley, 30, told his passengers that there was a warrant out for his arrest and he was going to run from police.

When Bagley fled, the cop pursued him and a subsequent struggle between the men led to the discharge of the officer's gun, prosecutors said. Bagley was hit with gunfire and later pronounced dead at Crozer Chester Medical Center.

A spokeswoman with the Delaware County District Attorney's Office said she could not comment on whether Bagley or anyone else in the vehicle was armed. The case remains under investigation by the district attorney's Special Investigation Unit.
