Two hurt in broad-daylight shooting

Two men are recovering after a fistfight turned into a gunfight this afternoon in Oxford Circle, police said.

Officers from the 2nd District were called to Castor Avenue near Alma Street about 3:45 p.m., Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

There, they found a 21-year-old shot in his hand. He was taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center in stable condition, where he remains tonight.

While investigating the scene, investigators were notified of a second shooting victim, a 24-year-old man, who had been driven from the area to Aria Health's Frankford campus after being shot in the calf. He is also in stable condition, Small said.

The moments leading up to the shooting were captured by private surveillance cameras in the area, Small said. That footage shows a fight between about eight people, who spill their melee out into the street.

At one point, one of the brawlers pulled out a semi-automatic handgun and fired at least two shots, according to witness accounts.

What sparked the initial argument is unclear, Small said. There's no description available on the potential shooter.
