Two men arrested in Kensington arson

Two men have been charged with setting fire to an occupied home in Kensington on Wednesday.

Two men have been charged with setting fire to an occupied home in Kensington on Wednesday.

The incident happened on East Monmouth Street near Frankford at 3:15 a.m.

Authorities said officers were patrolling the block when they saw two males running from a home, which was on fire. Both suspects were apprehended and police allegedly recovered a jug containing gasoline and two cigarette lighters.

The fire was extinguished and ruled an arson. Police said three people were inside the house at the time, but none of them were injured, and the damage was contained to the front door.

Authorities have charged Kahree Brown, 21, of Hartville Street near Allegheny, and Clinton Sumter, 21, of the block where the fire occured, with aggravated assault, arson, causing/risking a catastrophe, simple assault, and related offenses.

Police did not release a motive.
