A pair of Philadelphia police officers were hospitalized earlier today after someone threw an unknown substance in their eyes in North Philadelphia.

The cops responded to a report of a fight at 23rd and Somerset streets about 3 p.m. and found a man who had been stabbed, said Officer Jillian Russell, a police spokeswoman. At some point, they encountered a person who hit them in the eyes with a substance that might have been bleach, Russell said. Police didn't have a description of the assailant.

The officers were taken to Temple University Hospital, where they were expected to be treated and released, Russell said. The condition of the stabbing victim was unknown.
