Police: Woman who crashed car into train admitted to smoking weed

A 32-year-old Carroll Park woman who admitted to police that she had been smoking marijuana before she crashed her Honda Civic into a SEPTA Regional Rail train in Kingsessing Wednesday afternoon has been charged with driving under the influence, police said.

Tiffany Evans, of Master Street near 55th, was driving her silver car on 56th Street near Hoffman in Kingsessing when she lost control about 4:40 p.m. and hit a train that was heading toward the nearby Angora station, police spokeswoman Officer Leeloni Palmiero said. Evans admitted to officers who responded to the crash that she had been smoking marijuana before the accident, Palmiero said.

Evans was treated for a minor cut to her lip, and two women who were in the car with her at the time were also treated for minor injuries. No one on the train was hurt, but the crash snarled travel and caused delays on the Media/Elwyn Line for about an hour as the train involved was held near the Angora stop.

In addition to DUI, Evans is also charged with simple assault and reckless endangerment, Palmiero said.
