Lecavalier out Saturday in Dallas

DALLAS -- With Winter Storm Cleon wreaking havoc on the Big D, the Flyers were forced to cancel practice in the suburban metroplex area on Friday.

The storm dumped 3/4th of an inch of ice in the Dallas-Forth Worth area, leaving more than 264,000 people without power - including the Dr. Pepper Stars Center in Farmers Branch, Texas, where the Flyers were to practice.

The Flyers' game on Saturday afternoon (2 p.m. EST) at American Airlines Center is unlikely to be affected.

Coach Craig Berube said he didn't think not skating for the second day in a row would impact the Flyers' garnered momentum from their four-goal third period in Detroit on Wednesday. It is a particularly daunting situation for the Flyers, not skating Thursday or Friday, and no morning skate on Saturday to prepare for an afternoon game.

"I don't think it has anything to do with the momentum going from Detroit or whatever," Berube said. "But we didn't practice yesterday, and you'd like to get on the ice and get some work in, get some skating going, get the goalies some shots. It is what it is, so we've got to deal with it."

Friday's practice may have offered a glimpse into Vinny Lecavalier's status. Berube was unsure if Lecavalier was going to skate, but said he was "going to try."

Either way, Lecavalier will miss his third straight game due to back spams. He is officially listed by the Flyers as "day-to-day."

Injuries have been a bit of a concern for Lecavalier at this point in his career. Prior to this year, he missed 44 games over his last three years in Tampa Bay. Saturday will be his 7th game missed this season. When he has been healthy, he has been one of the Flyers most consistent forwards.

Lecavalier remains with the Flyers, getting treatment from team trainers for his injury. After Dallas, Lecavalier will have another opportunity to skate Sunday morning in Ottawa, as the Flyers continue their season-long 13-day road trip.
