Skills competition tonight

Before packing up and heading their separate ways for the holidays, the Flyers will have one last gift for their fans tonight in the form of a free skills competition at the Wells Fargo Center.

Coach Peter Laviolette will run his team through a regular practice for an hour before they take a brief break and split into two separate teams.

The two teams will compete in faster skater, hardest shot, shooting accuracy, power play and breakaway relay competitions.

More than 17,000 free tickets have already been distributed for the event. Fans needed to sign up in advance on PhiladelphiaFlyers.com and the event has been "sold out." Doors will open tonight at 5:00 pm but the skills competition will run from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm.

After this, the Flyers will not practice again until Dec. 26 in Vancouver, as the team is free to head back to their hometowns for the holidays. The Flyers will play 9 of their next 10 games on the road with their only stop back in South Philly being the Devils on Jan. 8.
