A fire and a gunshot leave two in critical condition

A 67-year-old woman was critically burned in a South Philadelphia residential fire early this morning, authorities said.

The blaze was reported at 3:26 a.m. in the 900 block of Federal Street in a three-story apartment building. The fire was placed under control at 3:46 a.m.

The woman was rescued from the building and taken to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and later transferred to Temple University Hospital.

The cause was under investigation.

And, a 29-year-old man was in critical condition after being shot last night in Southwest Philadelphia, police said this morning.

The shooting occurred around 11:30 p.m. in the 6000 block of Greenway Avenue, police said. The man was outside and shot once in the right torso.

He was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Police reported no arrests.
