Inquirer staff writer Sam Wood reports:

Gas prices in the region have become a welcome bright spot in a mighty dour economy.

A gallon of regular dipped below $1.50 this morning at several stations in South Jersey.

The region’s rock-bottom price -- $1.44 – could be found at several Cherry Hill locations: a Lukoil on Route 70 near Georgia Ave; US Gas on N. Kings Highway just off Route 70; and another Lukoil on N. Kings Highway near Church Road, according to GasBuddy.com.

The least expensive in the state can be found in Elmer, Salem County, where gas is selling for $1.39 per gallon at a Gulf station at the intersection of the Bridgeton Pike and Harding Highway.
