Park Commission becomes history today
The Fairmount Park Commission, an institution established in 1867 to oversee the city's parkland, holds its last meeting today.
Philadelphians voted in November to dissolve the commission and merge its responsibilties with the Recreation Department under mayoral control.
The city's park system covers over 9,000 acreas.
The meeting is set for 1 p.m. at the Horticultural Center, North Horticultural Drive and Montgomery Avenue, West Fairmount Park.
