Police hold five in Delco robberies; Asian business owners targeted

Inquirer staff writer Mari Schafer reports:

Philadelphia police have five people in custody and are questioning them in relation to a series of recent robberies in Delaware County targeting Asian business owners. At least two search warrants related to the robberies were served in the city overnight, according to police.

Just after 3 a.m. today, police said two men forced their way into an apartment above a Chinese restaurant on McDade Boulevard in Collingdale, occupied by the business owners. During a struggle with the owners, a weapon was discharged. No one was injured and the two robbers fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.

Two similar robberies also occurred in Marple Township this week and another in Middletown Township.

Police from Marple, Upper Darby and the Pennsylvania State Police are working with Philadelphia police in the investigation.
