Suspect asks cops to shoot him then kills self to end standoff

A man wanted on a narcotics charge killed himself yesterday afternoon after a two-hour stand-off with Bensalem Township police during which he asked cops to shoot him.

Inquirer staff writer Zoe Tillman reports:

A man wanted on a narcotics charge killed himself yesterday afternoon after a two-hour stand-off with Bensalem Township police during which he asked cops to shoot him.

Police said the man, who has not been identified, barricaded himself in a room at the Lincoln Motel on Route 1 around 3:20 p.m. when he saw police outside.

The officers were investigating a car whose owner was wanted for narcotics delivery in Hilltown Township, and was also listed by police as "an endangered armed suicidal person."

Police attempted to negotiate with the man, who was armed with a 9 mm handgun. During the stand-off he expressed suicidal intentions, at one point asking officers to come in and shoot him.

After two hours, the man shot himself and was dead by the time police entered the room.
