U. Darby police to issue arrest warrant in infant beating

Upper Darby Police will hold a press conference at 3 p. m. to announce an arrest warrant in the case of a severely beaten 3 month-old infant.

Upper Darby Police will hold a press conference at 3 p. m. to announce an arrest warrant in the case of a severely beaten 3 month-old infant.

The baby remains in critical condition on life support at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia with a fractured skull, bleeding on the brain and broken ribs that police say are consistent with a "savage beating."

On Nov. 24, the child's babysitter alerted authorities to the baby's injuries. The infant was taken to Delaware County Memorial Hospital and then transferred to Children's. The baby remains in critical condition at CHOP.

Superintendent of Police Michael J. Chitwood said yesterday there was evidence of prior injuries.

Chitwood also said the baby's parents had obtained a lawyer and were not cooperating with police. The babysitter is not considered a suspect, Chitwood said.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact them at 610-734-7677
