Glassboro appoints son of retired NJ Supreme Court justice to council

John E. Wallace III was selected to fill a vacant seat on the borough's governing body.

Glassboro Council has selected the son of a former New Jersey Supreme Court justice to fill the one-year unexpired term left vacant by the governing body's former president.

John E. Wallace III was one of three candidates tapped to fill the seat by the Glassboro Democratic Committee. Council unanimously voted Wallace to the position at a Dec. 30 meeting, at which he was sworn in by his father, retired New Jersey Supreme Court Justice John E. Wallace Jr.

Wallace III, 49, is a perfusionist at Cooper University Hospital's Department of Surgery. He has lived in the borough for 15 years and sits on its Zoning Board.

The appointment fills the seat of former Council President Anthony Fiola who stepped down from council in November after 17 years. Councilman George Cossabone was later selected to serve as president.

In a prepared release by the township, Wallace said: "Glassboro is in the midst of a remarkable transformation and I will do my best to have a positive influence in service to my family and neighbors in this community."

Wallace's seat will be up in this year's general election.
