On Tuesday, Macy's Inc. filed a lawsuit in New York State Supreme Court against Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia Inc., requesting a preliminary injunction to block a deal between the lifestyle company and J.C. Penney.
Looks like Martha's in trouble-- again.
On Tuesday, Macy's Inc. filed a lawsuit in New York State Supreme Court against Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia Inc., requesting a preliminary injunction to block a deal between the lifestyle company and J.C. Penney.
According to the WSJ, the suit was filed a month after the deal, which included a 16.6 percent stake in the company and subsequent plans to open Martha Stewart shop-in-shops within Penney's, was signed. In the suit, Macy's asserted that the deal would violate its own agreement with Martha Stewart Living to exclusively carry and sell products with the brand.
