Abraham to run for Mayor

Former Philadelphia District Attorney Lynne Abraham has decided she will run for mayor.

Following a meeting Tuesday night with those in her inner circle, Abraham decided she is "a go," said Eleanor Dezzi, who has been advising Abraham in the decision process and will serve as campaign adviser.

"I'm not prepared to make any announcement," Abraham said when reached Wednesday. "But I am not keeping it a secret that I'll be entering the race."

At a later time, that is.

"Right now I'm helping Tom Wolf become governor," Abraham, 73, said.

The former DA, who was elected five times during her tenure, will likely wait until November to make a formal announcement, Dezzi said.

Perhaps she is taking Democratic party boss Bob Brady's advice. When Terry Gillen launched her campaign earlier this month, Brady said it was "disrespectful" for any Democrat in Philadelphia to launch a mayoral campaign instead of helping Wolf, a Democrat, get elected Governor.

The Abraham news comes on the same day that former city solicitor Ken Trujillo officially launched his mayoral campaign.

When reached on the phone Wednesday, Abraham said she will be working on building her platforms and other campaign strategies in the next several weeks. She declined to discuss specifics of her campaign other than to say: "I'm probably the only one who has the experience [to tackle] the most difficult problems facing the city."

What problems exactly?

Well, we need to wait until her formal announcement to hear about them, she said.
