New poll in mayor's race, but whose?

Does Mayor Nutter deserve to be re-elected, or after four years is it time for a fresh face to lead Philadelphia?

That was one of the questions asked in a new poll underway, according to two people who received calls last night from an unidentified polling firm. All the questions seemed to circle back to the mayor's race and May's upcoming primary election.

Patrick Kerkstra, a former Inquirer City Hall reporter, (http://twitter.com/pkerkstra#) was one of those whose opinion was sought out last night.

He was first asked which issues were most important for the city to focus on: the economy, crime, education, government reform, improving city services, taxes or something else.

Next up was whether Kerkstra had a favorable or unfavorable opinion of the following eight people: Nutter, three-time mayoral candidate Sam Katz, State Sen. Anthony Williams (read about his possible candidacy here), City Councilman Bill Green, millionaire Tom Knox, State Rep. Dwight Evans, U.S. Rep. Bob Brady and U.S. Rep. Chaka Fattah.

These assessments were followed by several scenarios, including who would be the favored candidate in a Democratic primary contest featuring Nutter, Williams and Green; or featuring Nutter, Williams and Katz.

So, now, of course, the big question: Who is behind the poll?

Here's no clue: "We don't comment on anyone's polls, whether conducted by us or any other organization," said Nutter campaign spokeswoman Sheila Simmons.
