Nutter discloses overseas trips and pricey pen as 2013 gifts

In 2013, Mayor Nutter was treated, yet again, to an international trip and another fancy pen, according to his newly filed annual financial disclosure forms.

The forms-- required to be filed by all city elected officials, deputy mayors and department heads-- were due today.

The city records department was still receiving and sorting forms Thursday afternoon. Nutter's financial disclosures (he is required to fill three) were the only ones that were immediately available for review Thursday.

The mayor listed the following as gifts:

-          A $355 pen from the Sheaffer Pen Company in Iowa (it was related to a Philadelphia Pen Show)

-          PA Society reception and dinner tickets worth $610 from PECO

-          Vice President Joe Biden invited Nutter to join him on a trip to the Panama Canal in November worth $775

-          The Aspen Institute hosted Nutter at an October Mayor's Innovation Summit in New York, which was valued at $661

-          Greater Select Philadelphia paid $3,080 for Nutter's trade mission to London and Israel in November.

-          The U.S. Conference of Mayors paid $11,381 for Nutter to travel around the country as the conference's president (his tenure ended in June 2013).

The gifts were somewhat similar to what Nutter received in 2012. That year, Select Greater Philadelphia paid $2,954 for Nutter's transportation and lodging during his China trip. Select, the nonprofit arm of the Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, receives an annual $200,000 payment from the city.

That year he also received a $2,950 pen from Aker Philadelphia Shipyard.

However, city officials previously said those gifts – the pens and travel – are considered gifts to the city.
