American Airlines computer issues fixed at PHL

Computer issues affecting American Airlines are causing major delays at Philadelphia International Airport.

The American Airlines computer issues that have been causing major delays at Philadelphia International Airport have been resolved, officials said.

A spokeswoman for American, the dominant carrier in Philadelphia, said the airlines' systems did not come back online early Wednesday after a planned overnight internet outage.

That planned outage was from 1 to 4 a.m., airline spokeswoman Katie Cody said. But it took about four more hours for the airline's network to be restored.

The airport said American's computers were running again by about 8 a.m. and a ground stop that had been in place for American flights from other airports to Philadelphia had been canceled.

Delays and cancellations are expected throughout the morning as operations resume.

Other airlines were not affected.

Travelers were reporting long check-in lines due to the downed systems.

American was still able to check in passengers during the outage, but the process was much slower, Cody said.

While American's systems at other airports were not having issues, the Federal Aviation Administration had issued a ground stop for American flights departing to Philadelphia because of the problems.

It wasn't immediately known why American's systems didn't work properly after the planned outage.
