PA Turnpike tolls rise this weekend

Starting this weekend, motorists will pay more to drive the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

A 6-percent toll hike goes into effect at 12:01 a.m. Sunday for both cash and E-ZPass rates. Most drivers pay with E-ZPass.

Officials said the toll increase is needed to pay for loans taken out to fund transit projects statewide.

The Turnpike Commission says tolls are expected to rise 3 to 6 percent per year through 2044.
