PPA raising convenience fee for online, phone payments

The Philadelphia Parking Authority is adding $1 to its convenience fee for paying parking tickets online or by telephone.

The fee, now $2.50 per transaction, will increase to $3.50 on Nov. 1, according to PPA spokesman Martin O'Rourke.

The PPA called the fee hike a pass-along cost, saying that the fees credit card companies charge the authority to process online and phone payments are rising.

Motorists can avoid the convenience fee by mailing in their payment. That costs 49 cents for the price of a postage stamp.
