Person fatally hit by Amtrak train

A person was struck and killed by a train Friday morning, disrupting service on both Amtrak and SEPTA.

Someone who was trespassing on the tracks in Malvern was hit by a Keystone Service train that was traveling west from Philadelphia to Harrisburg at about 9:15 a.m., Amtrak said.

The person was killed in the incident. Further details about the victim or why the person was on the tracks weren't immediately known.

There were 100 people on the train at the time, Amtrak said. No riders or crew members were injured.

The train was held while authorities responded to the scene to investigate.

The incident also prompted SEPTA to suspend service on a section of the Paoli/Thorndale Line.

Trains on the Regional Rail line weren't operating between the Malvern and Paoli stations for nearly three hours. Service was resuming by about 12:45 p.m.
