Public transit and holiday travel: What you need to know

Public transit systems in the Philadelphia area will be operating with adjusted schedules for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Here's what you need to know if you're planning on riding SEPTA, PATCO or N.J. Transit on Thursday or Friday:

SEPTA

Thursday, Dec. 24: Adjusted service will be in place on many routes.

  1. City buses and trolleys will run on modified weekday schedules.

  2. Suburban buses, the 101 and 102 trolleys and the Norristown High Speed Line will operate on normal weekday schedules.

  3. An adjusted midday schedule for Regional Rail will provide earlier service out of Center City on some trains.

  4. The Market-Frankford and Broad Street lines will offer overnight subway service from Christmas Eve into Christmas Day.

Friday, Dec. 25: All SEPTA service will run on a Sunday/holiday schedule.

PATCO

Thursday, Dec. 24: A special schedule will be in place.

Friday, Dec. 25: A special schedule will be in place.

N.J. Transit

Thursday, Dec. 24: Trains will run on weekday schedules, with extra "early getaway" service on some lines. Peak-hour trips on certain bus routes will be eliminated due to lighter ridership.

Friday, Dec. 25: Trains will operate on weekend/major holiday schedules. The Newark Light Rail and River Line will run on Sunday schedules.
