Local Boy's TV Score

If everything goes according to plan, South Philly singer-songwriter Bill Ricchini is about to get a whole lot more exposure for his dreamy songs -- his "A Cold Wind Will Blow Through Your Door" is slotted to play during the climax to this week's "Grey's Anatomy."

Placing a song on a show can only help boost the buzz about Ricchini, whose debut wound up on Rolling Stone's ten-best CDs list in 2002, and whose follow-up scored the same honor in 2005. Still, he remains less than a household name even in his own neighborhood.

But "Grey's Anatomy" is not any show. It was the top-rated offering for the week that ended Oct. 22, averaging 22 million viewers in it's 9 p.m. time slot on Thursdays. And Ricchini's been told the ABC medical drama will play the entire song during an end-of-episode montage.

"Some cool news," the 32-year-old says by e-mail. Songs that make Grey's Anatomy are featured on the show's Web site and promoted for sale on iTunes.

While Ricchini's got signed papers, things can always change up until the night before airing, cautioned an ABC spokesperson. The production team "loves the song," and "all chances are that it is" going to stay in the show, the spokesperson said. Yet ...

You can hear the song streaming on Ricchini's Web site, billricchini.com. It's from his 2005 CD, Tonight I Burn Brightly.

He said he had to sign a waiver promising not to give away what happens in the episode, other than it involves Drs. Meredith Grey and Derek Sheperd aka McDreamy.

Ricchini says this about the music in his e-mail:

When I wrote that song I did feel that it has a bit of cinematic potential, but then again I approached my whole last record sort of thematically, almost like a soundtrack for a movie that doesn't exist. There's a real ghost element running through (the CD) - the idea of people who aren't here anymore, memories, dreams. "A Cold Wind Will Blow Through Your Door" is not a straight-up love song. It's also about death, ghosts. When I wrote the song I imagined someone who has lost someone and that person sort of telling them things are OK and that they are still looking after them - a sweet sentiment, I know, but a powerful one, I think.

Nice Marty. I love that the first comment when someone does good always has to trash the guy. Typical jealous behavior

The song is great, and so is his album. He's anything but a hipster- see him live and see for yourself. Try supporting a hometown brother for once!!

I like the song, but its too bad the creator is a completely delusional egomaniac who thinks his writing is god's gift to the world, when really its mediocre AT BEST.
