Daryll Clark unfiltered

Daryll Clark spoke with the media this morning via conference call. The Penn State quarterback sounded much better compared to his post-Iowa game interview when he emotionally took the brunt of blame for the loss. Here's a snippet of what he had to say:

1. Clark said the loss "was pretty painful," but that the team has re-focused and is looking ahead to Saturday's game with Indiana. He said the Iowa game was one you wanted to forget, but you can't because you have to remember all the mistakes of which there was plenty.

2. He spoke to his dad and former Penn State quarterback Michael Robinson following the game. His dad consoled him, but also gave him some tough love. Robinson told him how he felt after he was dealt a similar blow in the 2005 Michigan game and how he and the team rebounded to finish No. 3 in the country.

3. The team is still ending its practices by breaking its huddle with a cry of "National championship." (You gotta dream.)

4. Clark couldn't point to why he's seemed a different quarterback over the last two games. Part of it, of course, has to do with the defenses he's faced. Saturday's performance wasn't, he said, as a result of the concussion he suffered two weeks earlier. He said there wasn't much consideration that he should take the game off and let Pat Devlin play. He did say the "Wildcat" play involving Derrick Williams behind center was included so that he wouldn't get  hit as often during the game.

5. Clark didn't question the play-calling that didn't seem to adapt to the windy and cold conditions.

6. Asked if he might change his approach to preparation, Clark said, "I'm not going to change at all. ... It's just a matter of going out there and getting this damn thing done, excuse my language."
