Munchak dispels Penn State rumors

Despite multiple reports suggesting otherwise, Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Munchak said Wednesday that he has no interest in becoming Penn State's next head football coach.

Despite multiple reports suggesting otherwise, Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Munchak said Wednesday that he is not interested in becoming Penn State's next head football coach.

Speaking to The Tennessean on Wednesday, the former Penn State All-American offensive lineman said he loves Penn State but does not want to leave his current job.

"I love my alma mater, but I have no interest in being the head coach at Penn State," Munchak told the newspaper. "I never want to leave Tennessee. I have a great deal of respect for Penn State and I hope they find a great coach there. But I am happy where I'm at."

Earlier Wednesday, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that Munchak was Penn State's top pick to succeed Joe Paterno, who was fired Nov. 9. The report, which cited anonymous sources, said Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach Tom Clements was the second choice of Penn State's six-person search committee.

"There are so many rumors floating around about who is going to be the next coach everywhere," Munchak said. "There is so much going on and I don't want that to be a distraction. This speculation runs rampant.

"I am set where I am at. I am thrilled with what I am doing. I am not interested in the Penn State job. I am interested in what happens there, and I don't want to distance myself from Penn State. But as far as the head coaching deal, I am. I would love to be involved in my alma mater. My point is I have no interest in being the head coach there."
