Still named All-America; 19 Lions honored for academics
Penn State defensive tackle Devon Still was named a first-team All-American by CBSSports.com, while 19 of his teammates made Academic All-Big Ten.
Defensive tackle Devon Still of Penn State has earned first-team All-American honors as selected by CBSSports.com.
Still, who was named Big Ten defensive player of the year last week, is the 82nd Nittany Lions football player to be named a first-team All-American. Penn State players have been honored in such a way a total of 96 times.
Still, of Wilmington, is second in the Big Ten in solo tackles for loss with 15, and is tied for third overall with 17 tackles for loss with one game to play -- a matchup in the TicketCity Bowl in Dallas against Houston.
Meanwhile, 19 of Still's teammates were honored by the Big Ten on its academic all-conference team.
Junior guard John Urschel led the way as one of only four football players in the conference that has posted a perfect 4.0 grade-point average.
Also honored were strong safety Drew Astorino; offensive linemen Quinn Barham, Chima Okoli, Matt Stankiewitch, Mike Farrell, and Ty Howle; running backs Brandon Beachum and Joe Suhey; linebackers Glenn Carson, Mike Hull, Nate Stupar, Jamie Van Fleet, Brad Bars, and Kenny Pollock; wide receivers Evan Lewis, Ryan Scherer; tight end J.D. Mason, and kick snapper Jon Rohrbaugh.
