Profitable Greenphire raises $1.5M to hire salespeople

"We're pouring gas on the fire," says COO John Samar

Greenphire, a King of Prussia firm that makes ClinCard clinical-trials subject messaging software and eClinicalGPS vendor-payments automation systems, says it's raised $1.5 million from New York's First Round Capital and other investors in its first-ever venture funding deal.

"The capital will be used for hiring sales, support, and development" people," chief operating officer John Samar told me. The company claims 140 clinical-trial sponsor and research clients, and plans to expand abroad. "Basically we're profitable and pouring gas on the fire."
FirstMark founder Gerald A. Poch joins the Greenphire board alongside CEO Samuel Whitaker, cofounder Neil Rotheram MD, and David Reuter of Philadelphia investor LLR Partners.  Whitaker and Samar previously worked in Citigroup's prepaid payment cards unit.
