Goya expands mid-Atlantic hub

Goya Foods is opening a big Pedricktown warehouse to service growing markets in metro Philadelphia and Washington DC.

Fixed: Goya Foods, the Spanish-American-Caribbean distributor of pastele wraps, sofrito marinade, fideo noodles, canned squid, turron nougat and hundreds of other ethnic specialty foods, is putting the last touches on a new 200,000-square-foot regional hub at 1 Industrial Park, Pedricktown (in the north tip of Salem County, not neighboring Gloucester as I wrote before), replacing its smaller, older center in West Deptford, says spokeswoman Olga Luz-Tirado.

"Consumer demand has been through the roof" in the metro Philadelphia and Washington DC markets and points between, which the center will serve, Luz told me. Pedricktown is one of 14 Goya distribution centers worldwide. There'll be a groundbreaking 11 a.m. Nov. 11, with music, politicians, raffles and Miss New Jersey.
