PA teachers' union to join with AFL-CIO locals
Teachers' union joins PA AFL-CIO units
Suburban teachers' unions, which historically held themselves aloof from industrial, trade and government workers' unions, are poised to join their organizing and lobbying groups in Pennsylvania, its towns and counties.
"The presidents of the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO and the Pennsylvania State Education Association will sign a historic agreement" at PSEA's Harrisburg office next Tuesday morning, according to an AFL-CIO statement.
"Bill George, president of Pennsylvania AFL-CIO, the state's largest union, and Jim Testerman, president of the PSEA, the state's largest school employee union" (it claims 191,000 active, retired and student members) "will sign the labor solidarity partnership agreement," which "will allow for greater cooperation and participation by PSEA local affiliates in AFL-CIO central labor councils and state federations."
