SAP beats Oracle for $250M+ American Water deal
Newtown Square-based SAP North America won the deal to upgrade American Water's IT over rival systems from Oracle Corp. and specialized vendors
American Water has picked SAP North America of Newtown Square over rival Oracle Corp. to replace its decade-old customer, financial and operating software. The price "will be in the $250 million-to-$300 million range over a five-year period," John S. Young, chief water technology officer at Voorhees-based American Water, told me.
The water company expects SAP will require more training, but less server space, than Oracle systems need. For more about why the company chose SAP over Oracle, see my column in today's print Inquirer here.
Trenton residents will vote on whether to sell their waterworks to American Water next week. The company has grown by taking over private systems as well as town-owned systems around the country. More here and here.
