Sugar House slots gambling, hotel, garage review 6/24

Philadelphia planners will review the Sugar House gambling hall plan on June 24.

Here's the Friday evening transcript (highlights) from Mayor Nutter's Planning Commission:

"The Philadelphia City Planning Commission will meet in a special session on Wednesday, June 24, 2009, to review an amended Plan of Development for the Sugarhouse Casino proposed for the Delaware Riverfront.

"The meeting will take place at the Academy of Natural Sciences, 19th Street and Benjamin Franklin Parkway, beginning at 1:00 p.m. The meeting is open to the public...

"The SugarHouse Casino is proposed for a 23-acre, former industrial site along the Delaware River near the Fishtown neighborhood. To be built in phases, initial plans call for a 3,000 slot machine casino, parking structure, and riverfront promenade." With hotel rooms, restaurants "and other entertainment uses" also projected.

"The SugarHouse Plan of Development will be available for public inspection in the offices of the City Planning Commission, 1515 Arch Street (13th floor), beginning Monday, June 15th between the hours of
10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. The plan will also be available for viewing on Tuesday evening, June 16th, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

"The SugarHouse Plan of Development document is also available on the City Planning Commission Web site at www.philaplanning.org."
