Top Pa. insurance regulator joins Stradley law firm

Steve Johnson took down Reliance

Stephen Johnson CPA, the veteran Pennsylvania insurance regulator who led marathon liquidation proceedings for Reliance Insurance Co. -- the most expensive property and casualty insurance company failure in U.S. history -- and a string of medical malpractice insurers and other insolvent insurance companies, has joined Stradley Ronon, a law firm that has worked closely with the state insurance department.

Johnson, who has also served as a leader in the National Assocation of Insurance Commissioners, which coordinates joint regulatory efforts among the state agencies that are America's primary insurance regulators, moved to Stradley from his post as Deputy Insurance Commissioner overseeing the Pennsylvania Insurance Department's Office of Corporate and Financial Regulation, which includes examiners who review the state's 275insurers and occasionally forward information leading to their court-ordered reorganization.

"We are thrilled to add someone of Steve's caliber to our growing insurance practice," Stradley Ronon Chairman William R. Sasso said in a statement. "His deep knowledge of the changing regulatory landscape will be a great asset to our insurance company clients."
