UPDATE: Citizens Bank to cut 5% of jobs

Citizens Bank spokesman Mike Jones called from Boston to say the company plans to cut around 1,250 U.S. back-office positions, around 5% of its 24,000 workers, as part of a worldwide 9,000 job cuts by owner Royal Bank of Scotland.

The jobs are "not customer-facing;" they are back-office info tech and "processing" positions, he added. Citizens won't say how many cuts in each state, but last we checked Citizens had about 2,300 workers in the Philadelphia area, so that works out to around 120 jobs cut or left vacant.
