The Beastie Boys are at the head of the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame's Class of 2012, with the trio of New York rappers to be inducted at a ceremony on April 14 in Cleveland. Also going in are a list of marquee acts including Guns' N' Roses, Laura Nyro, Donovan (who these days records for local label Appleseed Recordings), The Faces / Small Faces, and the one completely dubious, credibility destroying selection: The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Really? The Red Hot Chili Peppers? C'mon, now.
Besides the five main inductees who need to have 25 years of service in to qualify, the Rock Hall also being in an act under the "Early Influence" heading. This year it's most-deserving blues guitarist Freddie King. The Ahmet Ertegun non-performer award goes to promoter Don Kirschner, whose name was synonymous with rock music on television before there was MTV. Awards for Musical Excellence go to producer / engineers Cosimo Matassa, Tom Dowd and Glyn Johns.
Below, the Beasties' "Intergalactic" and Freddy King's "Hideaway."
